Saint Ignatius' College is a co-educational school educating 1,400 students based over two campuses with the Junior School for Early Years and Reception – Year 6 students at Norwood approximately 10 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. The Senior School is based on just over 16 hectares nestling in the foothills at Athelstone approximately 15 minutes away from both the CBD and Junior School and provides a broad curriculum for Middle Years and Senior Years.
The College is one of four Australian Jesuit Colleges which form part of the network of over 1,000 international Jesuit educational communities throughout the world which began with the visionary Saint Ignatius Loyola some 450 years ago.
What is a Jesuit School? It is one whose style of education is based on Christian humanism which sees the growth of the entire individual as important. A Jesuit education emphasises the development of 'the whole person' – mind, heart, body, will; the intellectual and affective, the spiritual and the physical, the imagination and the sense of critique.
In traditional Jesuit terminology, our 'cura personalis' approach cares for and treats students as unique and gifted young people. The ideal for our Ignatian graduates is to become 'young men and women of competence, conscience and compassion' with an attitude of excellence and service – men and women for others.
