Junior School – Ignatius Early Years

Ignatius Early Years is the home for 3-5 year olds inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education and adapted to our Australian and Ignatian way of living and learning.

The Reggio Emilia approach to early learning is seen as world best practice. Our teachers aim to develop the child’s natural curiosity, imagination and creativity through play and exploration. We educate for the formation of the whole person spirituality, socially, culturally, academically, physically and intellectually to become spiritually alive and filled with a lifelong love of learning.

At Ignatius Early Years, we aim to create a warm caring and secure environment where children grow in confidence, self esteem and respect for each other and their world. Extensive thought has gone into both the indoor and outdoor learning settings with the child’s perspective in the forefront of our minds.

We encourage children to remain open to new ideas and other thinking. As educators, we recognize children are individuals, possessing a variety of experiences, knowledge and talents. Our aim is to facilitate each child’s unique learning potential. We aim to create an atmosphere of trust, mutual; respect and love.

In the Ignatian Early Years philosophy all children are seen as competent, capable and amazing individuals who each have a unique contribution to make to our world. Children are encouraged to express themselves in a variety of ways referred by the Reggio Emilia educators as “The Hundred Languages “. These many languages or expressions include the spoken word, drawing, painting, drama, music, mathematics, sculpture, puppetry and movement.
